"Azumanga Daioh" portrays the daily lives of six girls and two teachers in an unnamed Japanese high school. The characters include child prodigy Chiyo Mihama, who grapples with fitting in among older classmates; reserved Sakaki, whose love for cute animals contrasts with their indifference towards her; spacey Ayumu "Osaka" Kasuga, known for her unique perspective on the world; Koyomi "Yomi" Mizuhara, who deals with the frustrations of an annoying best friend; Tomo Takino, whose boundless energy is matched only by her lack of common sense; sporty Kagura, engaged in a one-sided athletics rivalry with Sakaki; as well as their homeroom teacher Yukari Tanizaki and her friend, physical education teacher Minamo "Nyamo" Kurosawa.
